However once the students have trained with us, those that show a good understanding of movement, timing and creativity will be offered the opportunity to move up a level even though they may not necessarily fit the age band. This is to ensure that students progress at their own pace, in a class suitable for their ability.
Sophia - Street Dance Academy Mill Hill
Sophia started dancing at the late age of 14, learning the styles of Jazz & Street Dance. Knowing from a young age that dance was her passion & career choice she went on to learn as many dance styles as she could and training professionally at The North London Dance Studio to become a professional Dancer & Dance Teacher.
As a professional dancer Sophia was a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance Greece, she performed inMusic Videos, on TV, in Films & Stage Shows including Pop World, Jay Soul ‘Streets Ahead’, King Jacks ‘Heros’, ‘Ten Years Younger’ Channel 4, ‘My almost famous family’ BBC, Pepsi & T-Mobile & Blackberry Commercial. At the Urban Music Awards, The Unicorn Theatre, Chelsea Theatre, at The Asian Music Awards, was one of 3 dancers in a Nestle DVD ‘flat belly workout’ to name a few. Her diversity in dance styles also took her abroad to Cyprus, Berlin & Valencia performing at Salsa congresses & touring the UK performing in Theatres across the country in a Contemporary/Latin theatre performance.
Alongside her 10 years of performing Sophia was teaching dance in many different schools, dance studios & gyms, including The Place, Danceworks, Pineapple, BCE & Dance schools such as Streetz Ahead, Step into Dance & Kay School of Dance.
Her love for teaching dance was & is just as strong as her love for performing. Working with students age 4, up to adults & seeing their progress & love for dance shine through gives Sophia a sense of achievement & proudness as a Teacher / Choreographer. Teaching the students at Street Dance Academy is not simply to have them come along, learn some moves & leave, but it is about creating an environment the students love to return back to, a Street Dance Family so to speak, where they make friends, learn to be part of a team, grow in confidence, enjoy & grow as dancers & people & make lasting memories, exactly like the wonderful experience & memories Sophia has from her dance classes/schools as a younger student.
